Mysuru: The week long breast feeding awareness programme was inaugurated on Saturday at Kaveri auditorium at Cheluvamba hospital. The breast feeding awareness programme begins on August 1 and continues till August 7 which is organized by Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Mysuru District Branch.
Speaking at the occasion, Dean and Director, Mysore Medical College Dr Krishnamurthy B spoke about the importance of Breast feeding after lighting the lamp at the inaugural function.
He also added the advantages of breast feeding for a child rather than artificial bottled milk. Although everyone knows the importance of breast feeding this programme is to bring more awareness to the working mothers – who these days prefer bottled milk to breast feeding, he said.
Dr Krishnamurthy also spoke about various kinds of instruments available in the market to extract breast milk specially made for working mothers. He requested all the mothers to breast feed and nurture their young ones at least for six months.
At the inaugural function, Dr Narayanappa, Department of Pediatrics, JSS Hospital, Mysuru, Dr Basavaraji, Dr. Dakshayini, Principal, MMC and Dr Radhamani and Dr Sudha Rudrappa were present on the occasion.
Many young mothers with their little ones and the hospital staff also participated.
