Mysuru: Buffaloes took centre stage during the protest organized by Kabini farmers welfare committee on September 17 where the protestors tried to highlight their view point, – ‘Government is fit to graze buffaloes’.
Farmers assembled in front of Command Area Development Authority (CADA) offices, vented their anger against the state government. They expressed their displeasure against the government’s decision to release water from Kabini dam which stood at 68 feet and demanded immediate stoppage in water supply. They said, the remaining water will be sufficient for only 20 days and hence it would be impossible for the state government to provide water to irrigate agricultural land covering one lakh acres in the Kabini basin.
They demanded compensation to the tune of Rs 25,000 per acre. Farmers led by their leader Kurubur Shanthakumar said, they will be urging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for compensation during their meeting with him on September 21.
They strongly criticized the arrest of innocents and farmers in the aftermath of violence that erupted when the SC verdict on the release of Cauvery water went against the State.
