Mysuru: In the early hours of sunday, a gang of thieves dug a tunnel to a jewellery shop and decamped with silver articles worth Rs 80,000 in the city. When the incident came to light on Sunday morning, the dog squad and finger print expers were called in. Nazarbad police are investigating the case.
Police observed that CCTV footage showed one person, with face covered by a piece of cloth, committing the crime. Police suspect the operation was plotted much in advance.
The burglars had targeted the Sri Lakshmi Bankers, a jewellery cum pawn shop, at Yeraganahalli on Mysuru-Bannur Road under Nazarbad Police limits. A tunnel 2ft wide and 5m long was dug perpendicular to an underground drainage in front of the shop.

According to Jayaram, two-three kg of silver articles worth Rs 80,000 were missing from the shop. The shop has no security personnel. But CCTV cameras are installed for safety purpose.
