Chamarajanagara: The Tamil Nadu Forest Department officials fined Rs. 7,500 to the lorry driver who gave sugarcane to the wild elephant on the national highway. The lorry driver Siddaraju, a native of Nanjanagudu is the offender.

Siddaraj threw sugarcane to an elephant standing on the roadside near Asanur in Tamil Nadu bordering Chamarajanagara. The Forest Department personnel who saw this while on patrol inquired about the incident and imposed a fine.

Elephants intercepting trucks to taste and collect sugarcane is common in the Asanur part of the Bengaluru – Dindigul National Highway. Many social media users condemned the attitude of the Forest Department saying that elephants waylaid lorries due to the shortage of food in the forest.
