Hanur: A primary health centre, established to cater to financially challenged patients, has unfortunately become home to chaos. On one hand, there is no proper water supply in the toilets, the water tanks have begun overflowing, and on the other hand, the hospital staff are extorting money from the patients. Such are the pathetic conditions observed at the Hanur Primary Health Centre.
Patients seeking treatment at the centre have complained that it has turned into an untidy and unhygienic place, making it impossible for a normal human being to stay.
The hospital has literally turned to a parking lot for private vehicles, as there is no compound wall, and the list of rates for blood and urine tests fixed by the health department is missing.
Worst of all, due to improper cleaning of the surroundings, buildings and especially the toilets, the patients and their family members are left with no option but to defecate outside within the hospital premises.
Bushes covering a vast area around the premises have led to the fear of poisonous creatures entering the hospital.
A lack of proper waste management has led to a large portion of the waste being scattered all around the area.
The people in the surrounding areas have also alleged that if any outpatient comes in for treatment, they are charged a fee of Rs 10. They are charged anywhere from Rs 500 to 2000 in case of a pregnancy and anywhere from Rs 50 to 100 for IV drips. Blood and urine tests cost anywhere from Rs 100 to 200.
Meanwhile, District Health Officer (DHO) Ravi has said that taluk health officer Gopal has been directed to visit the health centre and inspect the conditions. He has assured that necessary action will be taken.
