Chamarajanagara: A mysterious explosion occurred in Singanalluru Village in Kollegala Taluk on the morning of Tuesday December 21 created panic among villagers. A house completely collapsed and the walls of ten other houses have developed cracks. But fortunately no casualties were reported.
At about 2.40 am, a loud noise was heard, soon the house of Siddaraju collapsed. Siddaraju, who was awakened by a loud noise, ran out of the house with his aunt Ratnamma when everything on the roof of the house began to fall. Ratnamma sustained minor injuries on her hand and leg.
Siddaraju who runs a kirana shop in his house said he heard a loud noise but don’t know where the sound came from. “Villagers, who were terrified by the sound, ran outside their houses. The walls of morenthan 10 houses have developed crack due to the impact.”
Initially it was suspected that the LPG cylinder might have exploded. However, cylinder at home was found intact.
Police team visited the spot with the dog squad and are investigating. The exact cause of the blast or the incident is yet to be ascertained, police said.
Hanuru MLA R. Narendra visited the village on Tuesday morning and inspected it. He assured financial assistance too.
Speaking to News Karnataka, he said, “The cause of the explosion is unknown. We need to investigate and confirm this,” he added.
“There are no quarries around the area,” said Nagabhushan, Deputy Director of the Department of Mines and Geology. “It is not known as yet whether the earthquake caused a noise or explosion. We are investigating,” he added.
