Mysuru: State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to obtain UGC recognition to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). This action is in response to innumerable students requesting CM to find a solution to the long pending issue.
UGC has derecognised Karnataka State Open University from the academic year 2013-14. Future of thousands of students remains uncertain after derecognition. A comprehensive report has already been submitted to the UGC based on recommendations of an expert panel constituted by the UGC. However, KSOU has not been recognised even after submission of necessary documents, CM stated in his letter.
“Many students studying in KSOU belong to social and economically backward communities. They are unable to pursue higher education after UGC derecognised KSOU. Students frequently approach me and discuss on the issue. On June 21, a proposal was submitted to UGC based on the outcome of the meeting held under the chairmanship of secretary, higher education department. Unfortunately, UGC has not reacted on the impending issue,” stated CM Siddaramaiah.
Students are eagerly awaiting the decision of the UGC to put an end to uncertainties, concluded CM and remained hopeful of a favourable outcome in the event of prime minister issuing a directive to UGC.
