Mysuru: The city of Mysuru bore a festive look with various organizations celebrating Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary with fervor.
Speaking after paying floral tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar as part of Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations at Town Hall here on Friday, district minister HC Mahadevappa said “The statue of Ambedkar next to the present statue which is being constructed based on the model of Jayachama Rajendra Wadiyar statue at the cost of nearly Rs 6 crore will be completed by the end of this month. Apart from this, second phase grant of Rs 6 crore to complete ongoing construction of Ambedkar Bhavan is sanctioned and the work will be completed at the earliest”. For construction of Ambedkar statue at Town hall, PWD has given contract of developing stage, pedestal, steps, Mexican grass patches and electrification of the statue to Shankara Shilpi Institute School. The 23 diameter dome will be copper and gold plated.
Various organisations including Dalit organizations, educational institutions, political parties, hotel owners association paid tributes to Ambedkar. To mark birth anniversary HV Rajeeva Balaga had organized its 150th cleanliness campaign at Ashokapuram, hundreds of volunteers including students cleaned the streets in Ashokapuram area. UOM B R Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre and SC/ST Cell and Karnataka State Gangubhai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University organized programs.
Artistes wearing masks of animals and others performing different art forms like that of Kamsale, pooja kunita, dollu kunita and also kamsale gave artistic touch to procession in the backdrop of native drums. A tableau carrying a life size portrait of Ambedkar was the highlight. People belonging to Gandhinagar too took part in the celebration in large number.
