Mysuru: “Government is concentrating on imparting skill based and quality education as both are necessary for overall development of an individual to lead a prosperous life” said Chief minister Siddaramaiah here on Wednesday.

After inaugurating  the golden jubilee celebration of JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science and unveiling the celebrations logo, CM said that students need skill based education to lead life. Education means not only learning to read and write, but it should contribute to the overall personality of an individual, he added.

Apart from basic education, skill development based education system is very much necessary. Quality education should be available for everyone and none should be deprived of it, he stressed.

CM said present youths have feelings that they can live only if they pursue professional courses. Government wants to change this mind set of present youth and has therefore given 60% prominence to skill based education. He urged students to excel in their subjects.

Education should be the basis of religion and moral values should be developed through it. There is a need for developing and adopting human moral values to remain as responsible citizens. He said, many people are highly educated and have degrees but have failed in life due to lack of skills and ability.

CM said, “along with education, the intellect  should also be developed. According to him if there is no intellectual development then one cannot be called as a  knowledgeable person”.

Citing blind beliefs and celebrations of unscientific rituals CM said these rituals developed along with human beings. Even media are promoting these kinds of rituals. Ghosts do not exist. “Doing wrong things is hell and right things is heaven,” he said. CM highlighted Basavanna and his teachings towards society.

Siddaramaiah called upon youth to work hard to acquire merit. Without favorable environment, dedication and effort, it is very difficult to pursue education. He urged students to utilize modern technologies to acquire more knowledge.

“Birth and death are natural. How we live and what we contribute to society is what counts. Time is high for students to question themselves and to decide on what they can give to the society and towards others”, he said.

CM lauded JSS Mahavidya Peeta for offering education for rural youth and encouraging poor and economically backward people. “Suttur Mutt has history of thousand years and JSS Institutions is a matter of pride for Mysuru”, he added.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, co-operation minister H S Mahadev Prasad, who was an alumnus of JSS institutions, recalled his student life in the institution. The Minister also recalled about the development and contributions of the institution towards society.

Revenue minister V Srinivas Prasad citing India’s history said that the country  lacked equality in the society,  and students must develop the sense of equality. JSS Vidya Peeta has created a revolution in the field of education. Unity in diversity must not only be the slogan, students must adopt it to bring in change, he added.

Srinivas Prasad opined that extracurricular activities can contribute hugely towards one’s overall development. Highlighting his participation out of academic syllabus, he urged students to take active part in co-curricular, activities.
