Bengaluru/ Mysuru: In a major push for urban transformation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is spearheading the ambitious ‘New Mysuru’ project — a visionary twin city planned on the outskirts of Mysuru. Inspired by the structured urban layouts of New Delhi and Chandigarh, the initiative aims to create a modern satellite city with integrated infrastructure and government services.

A crucial meeting has been scheduled on May 5 at the CM’s official residence, ‘Cauvery’, in Bengaluru. The session will bring together key cabinet members including Mysuru District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh, and other ministers—Dinesh Gundu Rao, R. Ramalinga Reddy, Krishna Byre Gowda, and K. Venkatesh—along with senior bureaucrats from Revenue, Finance, and Urban Development departments.

‘New Mysuru’ is envisioned to feature wide arterial roads, green parks, a multi-specialty hospital, planned residential zones under MUDA and KHB, and unified government complexes. The project is being projected as a legacy-defining initiative for the CM.

Interestingly, while the site for the new city has been finalised, its details are being withheld. “Disclosing the location now could trigger rampant land speculation and exploitation of farmers,” a senior official remarked. This precaution is aimed at preventing middlemen from manipulating land prices ahead of official announcements.

Mysuru DC G. Lakshmikanth Reddy confirmed his invitation to the meeting but stated he hasn’t been briefed on the detailed plan. The proposal is likely to be presented before the State Cabinet for approval on May 9.
