Mysuru: Complaints of foreign students who are studying in University of Mysore should be addressed immediately said Dayanand Mane, in-charge Vice Chancellor, UOM.

Mane called upon the foreign students to contact him directly if they have any academic or non-academic issues. There are nearly 900 students from over 50 different countries who are pursing various master degree and PHDs in UOM. “Foreign students come to UOM with goals and vision that they are under impression that UOM is one of the best university in India. Couple of years back, especially when Indira was director of the centre, there was hardly any complaints from foreign students but recently we have come across problems from foreign students especially related to academics. Whatever the  problem may be academic and non-academic we have to sit across the table and sort it out. Due to latest UGC guidelines, foreign students must be having problem related PHD guides; we will try to sort it out at the earliest”

“We need to have dynamic, humane and proactive director for international centre otherwise the students will definitely suffer, many time they will not come out with problems or complaints and suffer a lot within. There are many professors who are willing to serve as director for this centre, we are not forcing anybody to continue as director, at the outset I don’t want students coming from foreign countries to suffer. Within few minutes their issues should be addressed. Two to three years back, there were more than 2500 foreign students, but due to problem with India and Iran, the students from Iran who used to come in large number have stopped coming to UOM. Among the five parameters to recognize any university as potential of excellence the admission of foreign students is one of the important criteria,” added Dayanand Mane who also called upon foreign students to directly meet him if they have any issues.
