Mysuru: Senior BJP leader and opposition leader in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa claimed that many Congress leaders are looking at BJP for contesting the next Assembly polls. He was speaking at the valedictory of the BJP medical practitioners cell membership drive in city on March 30.
The BJP has become the single largest political party in the world with a membership of 8.75 crore. Stating that BJP National President Amit Shah had set a membership target of 10 crore, Eshwarappa said already 8.75 crore people across the country have enrolled themselves as party members, which is higher than the figure of a political party in China.
Pointing out that the BJP Medical cell has 52,500 members, which is a record of sorts, the BJP leader recalled his days in the erstwhile Jan Sangh. Noting that BJP has grown over the years due to the untiring efforts of workers and leaders, Eshwarappa said with Narendra Modi heading the nation, other countries are looking towards India for bonding ties.
Hitting out at critics for portraying BJP as a pro-Hindu outfit, Eshwarappa ridiculed claims of some political leaders that BJP was a non-secular party. Eshwarappa expressed confidence that the BJP would certainly come to power once again in the State.
MP Pratap Simha, in his address, recalled on how the medical practitioners had infused confidence in him when he was asked to contest from Mysuru-Kodagu seat in last year’s Lok Sabha polls.
A list of 5,188 active members of the cell was presented to Eshwarappa on the occasion. It was also announced that the city BJP unit has 52,500 members.
L. Nagendra, former KEA Chairman B.P. Manjunath, District BJP President Hemanth Kumar Gowda, BJP Medical Practitioners cell convenor Dr. Manjunath and others were present.
