Even though Karnataka witnessed a significant drop in Covid-19 cases since the pandemic’s peak, the virus continues to claim lives in the state. As of November 21, 2024, the state has recorded 39 Covid-related deaths. Mysuru district has seen the highest number of casualties this year, with 10 fatalities. This district was one of the hardest-hit regions during the peak of the pandemic.
Ballari follows closely behind, with five deaths attributed to Covid-19 in 2024. Bengaluru Urban recorded four deaths. This data was shared by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, in response to a question raised by Kalaburagi MP Radhakrishna.
The first year of the pandemic (2020) saw a devastating toll. Bengaluru had the highest number of Covid deaths, with 4,344 lives lost. Mysuru came second with 1,012 fatalities, while Dakshina Kannada experienced 736 deaths, placing it in third place.
Despite the reduced number of cases compared to the earlier waves, Covid-19 continues to have a significant impact on certain areas of Karnataka. The ongoing loss of lives is a reminder that the virus remains a concern, even as daily infections decrease.
