Mysuru: Several organisations across the city have demanded Union minister Smriti Irani’s resignation for taking the death of Dalit student Rohit Vemula, on a light note. A detailed probe has also been demanded in this regard.
Thousands of members of various Dalit associations joined and protested outside the DC’s office and sought justice for the death of Vemula. They demanded equal opportunity for dalit students.
They also demanded to ban ABVP and asked that the Hyderabad university chancellor be suspended. They also burnt effigies of BJP spokesperson Subramanyan Swamy for his comment.
It may be recalled that Swamy has recently said that no one should play caste politics at the time of death.
The protesters also lashed out at the Governor for allowing Mysuru university chancellor Rangappa to continue at the same post despite the fact that he is facing several charges.
