Dasara Sports 2016: Mysuru emerge overall champs

Mysuru: Mysuru division emerged as overall champs in the state level Dasara sports meet, athletic event for the year 2016 which concluded at Chamundi Vihar stadium on Tuesday. The meet saw overall ten new records rewritten including three on the final day.

In the men’s section, Mysuru division with overall 57 points emerged as champions while Bengaluru Urban and Belagavi division stood second and third respectively. In the men’s individual section, Manish of Mysuru division and KA Bharath of Bengaluru Urban who pocketed ten points each won the individual championship award. On the last day, Karthick Basagondappa of Belgaum division created new meet record in Triple jump by jumping 15.04mtr. He erased an eight-year-old record created by Arshad M of Bengaluru Urban who had scaled 14.89mtrs. In the 5000mtr, 200mtr and Javeline throw, Raju Naik of Belgaum with a timing of 15:58:9sec, Manish of Mysuru division with timing of 22.10sec and PJ Purandara of Mysuru division who threw 56.85mtrs stood first respectively.

In the women’s section, Bengaluru Urban emerged as champs followed by Mysuru and Bengaluru Rural who stood second and third respectively. The individual championship was shared by HM Jyothi and Nithyashree both from Bengaluru Urban and Thippavva Sannaki of Mysuru division who pocketed ten points each. On the last day, Jyothi who had created new meet record in the 100mtr event continued her fine run by creating new meet record in the 200mtr event. She clocked 23.90sec to erase a two-year-old record of 24.1sec by M Arpitha of Bengaluru Urban (2014). Thippavva Sannaki who had won gold in 1500mtr event on Monday, came out with gold by winning 3000mtr run with a timing of 10:47:80sec. Anusha G Poojari of Mysuru division won the gold in triple jump event by scaling 12.25mtr.

Ujwal C Naidu, PS Srivarshinee emerge as champs

In the gymnastic event, in the men’s section, Ujwal C Naidu of Bengaluru Urban dominated the event as he stood first in Table vault, parallel bar, roman rings, horizontal bar and floor exercises. He pocketed overall 70.95 points to win the individual championship title. Bengaluru Urban won the team championship title.

In the womens section, Srivarshinee of Bengaluru Urban won table vault, balancing beam while G Sandhya from Bengaluru Urban, stood first in floor exercise and uneven bars. Bengaluru urban won the championship title.

Group events

Mysuru division emerged as champs in Throwball men and women, table tennis men and women. Bengaluru urban bagged the first place in badminton.
