Hunsur: A tobacco grower attempted suicide inside Karnataka branch premises in the town, when bank officials credited the available savings bank account balance to the loan account.
Suresh, resident of Thimmalpura village had borrowed Rs 6 lakhs from Karnataka Bank branch in the town. When Tobacco Board issued a Cheque for Rs 1.7 laks against supplies made by him, Suresh deposited the same in the bank. He requested the private bank officials to give him Rs 20,000 and adjust the rest amount of Rs 1.5 lakhs towards loan account.
When bank officials refused to agree to his request and demanded the clearing the entire loan of Rs 6 lakhs to withdraw cash for personal use, depressed tobacco grower Suresh attempted suicide in the bank premises itself.
Other farmers present in the bank rushed Suresh to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered in town police station pertaining to the incident.
