Mysuru: The students of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) have urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to provide a one time solution to end their predicament. Nearly six lakh aggrieved students from Karnataka and outside want the issue resolved so that their future is not jeopardized.
A letter supposedly written by the KSOU students is being circulated on social media. In the letter addressed to the UGC and many prominent political leaders, the students alleged that they have been suffering mental trauma due to the cancellation of the courses. They alleged that the UGC and KSOU had wasted 5 years of the students.
According to the students, about Rs 450 Crore in course fees collected by KSOU was not returned to them. They demanded to return the fees immediately.
UGC had derecognised the KSOU retrospectively from 2012–13 in June 2015 citing blatant violation of norms.
If their grievances are not addressed, they said 6 lakh students and their families would vote “None of The Above” (NOTA) in the upcoming Assembly election. The disgruntled students have also warned to start #ManeManegeNOTA campaign to convince other voters to opt NOTA.
