Mysuru: The authorities in Mysuru have begun chalking out a plan to construct an exclusive facility to house VVIPs, mainly the President, Vice President and Prime Minister. This development comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the city. The proposed facility including a helipad is being planned at the Government Guest House.

During the PM’s visit to the city, the district administration had to request 20 guests, who had booked rooms at the Radisson Blu, to move to other star hotels as the hotel was taken by the SPG and the Lalitha Mahal Palace was booked for a wedding. Deputy Commissioner D Randeep has said that he has started to work on a plan to construct an exclusive facility in the city.

He has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) engineers to look at the possibility of housing the facility at the sprawling 200 years old Government Guest House premises where there is ample vacant land. He has also sought a comprehensive development plan for the same, which will be forwarded to the state government.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, D Randeep said, “Before Modi’s visit to Mysuru, even President Ram Nath Kovind wanted to stay in Mysuru but due to lack of facilities he cancelled his visit and opted to stay put at the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru before he came down to Shravanabelagola. During the PM’s visit too, there was lot of confusion related to accommodation and logistics, which has forced me to consider constructing a facility of our own to host the VVIPs.”

“We have lot of space at the Government Guest House. It is a heritage building and another one which we have proposed will look similar. After getting the approval from the heritage department, along the lines of the Bengaluru Kumar Krupa annex, we can have a similar looking structure with more rooms and plan to have a helipad also next to the existing building”, he explained.

Explaining his plan further, Randeep said that they planned to have five to six VVIP rooms especially to accommodate the President, Vice President and Prime Minister. Apart from this, there is also a plan to construct 60 to 70 rooms which include Category 1 and standard rooms so that if any ministers visit Mysuru, they can be accommodated here itself instead of scattering them across the city. The present rooms at the government guest house can host VVIPs but, it even though it looks royal, it is not large in size”, added Randeep.
