Mysuru: A new initiative titled ‘Dudiyona Ba’ (Let’s Work) has been rolled out across Mysuru district to curb the migration of rural workers during the intense summer months. The campaign aims to offer sustained employment opportunities under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) by ensuring locals can access work without leaving their villages.
As part of this month-long campaign, every gram panchayat will implement steps to engage eligible labourers by creating awareness about the 100 days of guaranteed unskilled work available under MGNREGA. Villagers aged 18 and above are eligible to apply for a job card at their local panchayat. Once issued, they can submit a work request to participate in collective labour projects.
Officials emphasized the need to identify vulnerable sections — including the differently-abled, women, gender minorities, and families not yet enrolled — to ensure inclusive participation. From April 1, MGNREGA daily wages have been revised to ₹370, with equal pay for men and women.
Families with job cards may also undertake individual works worth up to ₹5 lakh. Available projects include pond desilting, canal development, roadside tree planting, agriculture-related forestry, school and Anganwadi improvements, rural roads, and drainage systems.
CEO S Ukesh Kumar urged villagers to make the most of this opportunity, citing the Stree Chetana campaign as a model of community success. ZP Deputy Secretary M Krishnaraju confirmed panchayats are fully prepared to accept job applications and assign work.
