Mysuru: A farmer was killed and a house was damaged in two separate elephant attack incidents near Nagarahole Wildlife Sanctuary during last 24 hours.
In first case, Rajesh, a farmer who was going to feed cattles outside his house at Kolavige in Veeranahosahalli Forest Range was trampled by wild elephant on the night of Wednesday February 2.
The Forest officials have visited the spot on Thursday February 3 and promised compensation.
In another incident, a pachyderm attacked a house at Nagapura Tribal Colony in Veeranahosahalli Forest Range limits in wee hours on Thursday. The villagers alleged that though department has erected solar fence alongside forest to prevent entry of elephants, the officials have not been maintaining the fence hence elephants are entering and damaging properties, and claiming human lives. They also warned of severe agitation if department does not initiate action to prevent theentry of elephants into human habitat.
