Mysuru: “After finishing the matches, during team meetings I was not getting the right feedbacks but my engineering in Instrumentation Technology helped me to come out with the much needed solution for my problem,” said former Indian speedster Javagal Srinath who is also an alumni of SJCE.

Speaking after inaugurating “Instrument Society of India Student Chapter at SJCE” here on Saturday he said, “During 1991 to 1997, after every match, we used to have team meetings with coaches. Though the coaches used to tell that I had not bowled well, I used to ask them where I went wrong but they were not giving me the much needed right feedback. When I insisted on feedback, Madal Lal and Gaekwad gave me the video clippings of the entire test match. I would have bowled 15 overs in the morning session and nearly 15 overs later in the evening session. It was really a laborious task to go through the video clipping and know where exactly we went wrong as we used to fast forward very to see where we went wrong”.

“After going through this laborious task, in 1999, I decided to come out with some solution to this problem. I brought this to the notice of my classmate Mohandas who was well versed in computer to come up with the much needed solution. I told our problems and in turn he told me that he was having an idea but some company needed to support for this. After getting permission from BCCI, we managed to get the help from a private firm. Mohandas along with the help from a private firm came out with the video tool which recorded each ball in the computer, gave attributes and name to the bowler and batsman and stored it in the database. It used to give all information about each bowler and batsman which made our meeting more meaningful and also help overcome our problems. It was for the first time that such a technology was introduced in the world. This conviction came from my degree. Whether he is junior or senior give due respect to somebody who is better than you, then only knowledge flows”, added Srinath.

‘Education improves your status’

“Strive for one degree in life. Degree gives you social status, confidence in life. It makes you something different; it gives acceptability factor. Degree is very crucial for all of us. Hence don’t discontinue your studies. If you are not having one, you lose status in the society. Think ahead of syllabus and use teacher not just to deliver the lecture which is already in the text book but make them think more. From aeroplane to scooter, Instrumentation Technology knowledge is needed. According to me, it is the mother of all departments and students who pursue this stream have an extremely bright future.”

After retirement from cricket Srinath is interested in doing masters!

“After my cricket, to do masters and to know more about it, I had been to the US. During three months stay in the US, I came across the system of education which is adopting. It spends more time on debate, discussion with rational logics”, added Srinath who presented a nearly 35-minute inspirational speech to the students which even made B G Sangameshwar, Vice Chancellor, JSS Science and Technology University to invite Srinath to deliver such talks to other department students as well.

He also mentioned the way the teaching and non-teaching staff’s support motivated him to achieve what he is today. On the occasion he remembered former principal of SJCE, Dhananjay and other teaching faculties including Udayshankar, Shylaja, Chandrashekar, Maheshappa, Bhanuprakash, Umarani, Sukumar and Satyanarayana of Geetha Book House who helped him in getting a seat in SJCE.
