Mysuru: This summer there will not be any scarcity of water in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mandya as the water level in Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini dams are sufficient to meet the demands of these cities, say officials.
The water level in KRS dam in Srirangapatna of Madya taluk is 13.6 per cent higher this year compared to the corresponding day last year.
KRS dam supplies water to Mysuru city and its villages and Bengaluru city.
According to officials, 3 tmcft of drinking water is required by the entire region per month therefore 9 tmcft of water will be required for the next 3 months till June. If the available water in the dam is not used for any other purposes, then there will not be any drinking water problem this year, said the officials.
The water released for farming has been reduced to ensure sufficient water for drinking.
The water level in Kabini dam in H D Kote taluk of Mysore district is also sufficiently high compared to last year.
When the water in KRS dam is not sufficient, Bengaluru city will be supplied from Kabini dam which is released from its pumping station at Torekadanahalli reservoir.
The water levels in other dams like Hemavathi in Gorur, Hassan district and Harangi in Kodagu district have gone down but are slightly higher than last year.
