Exhibition of medical herbs and plants held to mark World Environment Day

Mysuru: To mark World Environment Day that is to be held on June 5 Mysuru Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya jointly with the department of AYUSH, an exhibition showcasing the strength of medical herbs and plants was held at Chandravana Garden.
Principal of the college Satyanarayana Bhat described the exhibition as one held to create awareness on medicinal plants which are rare in this region. The students and lecturers of the college deployed to explain the medicinal use of these varieties. Public who are interested to grow this can buy them free by providing their ID cards.The exhibition will be held till June 5. These varieties can be grown in the backyards of houses,” he said.

The medicinal plants include Ashoka saplings which act as a great stress reliever particularly for women. It keeps them active by providing energy. “We have 1000 saplings of Cedrelatoona which rarely found in this region and have a good medicinal usage. The other plants that were on display were Hebbevu, Nimbe, Nelli, Bramhi, Aloevera, Amruthaballi, Bilvapathre also attracted the public”, he added.

Further, he said that plants have the ability to synthesize a wide variety of medical compounds that are used to perform important biological functions. The use of herbs to treat disease is almost universal among the rural folks and it is affordable than expensive English medicines. The quantity of consuming these herbs also plays a crucial role for a healthy life.

Public and students of Ayurveda College actively took part at the event in large numbers.
