Mysuru: The Falcon tyres plant in Mysuru failed to reopen on June 15th despite an agreement to that effect between the Management and the Employees union. This, after a series of assurances given previously failed to materialize. The dissatisfied employees are now dependent on the state government for a resolution of the dispute. A 500 member delegation left to Bengaluru by train at 8.45 yesterday to impress upon the government their dire straits.
A much expected high level meeting led by a government committee headed by Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande, comprised Labour Minister Parameshwar Naik, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao and Revenue and District In-Charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad is expected to determine the fate of the factory.
The Company’s administration had earlier assured the agitators they they would restart operations on May 15. It failed to restart and the administration blamed financial reasons; then the company again assured that operations would resume on June 1, but failed to keep its word. Finally, the company said it will restart on June 15, after intervention of the state government. This came after the Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Falcon Tyres Employees Association on June 4.
