A female leopard that had been causing concern among the residents of Toravalli village in the taluk has been safely captured by the forest department. The big cat, believed to be around two years old, was trapped in a cage placed on the outskirts of the village.

Over the past two to three months, there had been several reports of livestock being attacked, creating a sense of fear and restlessness among villagers. In response to repeated appeals from the community, forest officials took swift action to address the growing wildlife conflict.

Officials had strategically placed a trap cage in a location frequently visited by the leopard. On the morning of the incident, the animal was found inside the trap, which had been set up using standard and ethical wildlife management practices.

This capture comes shortly after two other leopards were trapped in a nearby village, Dasanur, just a few days ago — indicating a rising trend of human-wildlife interactions in the region.

Following the successful capture, forest officials reached the spot promptly and transferred the animal for further medical examination and safe relocation. The operation brought significant relief to the local population, who had been living in fear due to frequent leopard sightings.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with wildlife officials during such interventions, as steps are being taken to ensure both human and animal safety.
