Mysuru: Following the Cauvery water issue and water scarcity across the district, the district administration is contemplating to ensure that Dasara this year is managed economically.
Though the district administration had earlier decided to celebrate Dasara on a grand scale, they have now almost decided to scale down the celebrations due to the Cauvery issue and water crisis. A few of the events are expected to be cancelled.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “Dasara this year will neither be too grand nor too sober. It will be socially relevant and farmer friendly. We have decided to reduce a few events and reduce the budget. For new events, we will go for a private sponsor. We have come out with 25 billboards across several places in Mysuru and a few more billboards will be on water conservation. Minor irrigation, major irrigation and rural water supply department will be coming on tableaus based on water conservation”.
The district administration is also contemplating to conduct various awareness programs to help farmers. Awareness will be created on what crops are best suitable when there is scarcity of water and how to extract maximum profit out of the crops. The experts will reach farmers and go all out in their effort to convince the farmers about need based crops. There are also possibilities to hold a few national sports events.
