Mysuru: During Dasara this season, the tourists and the people of Mysuru can see the first ever open street festival at Devaraj Urs Road on September 27. On this day, from 7 am to 9 pm, there will be no vehicular movement on this stretch. It will be a fair like event where apart from regular business establishment on either sides of the road, 60 temporary stalls will be set up where one can have everything for reasonable cost.
Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “Though open street concept has already started in a couple of places in Bengaluru, this is for the first time that people in Mysuru can see such a street where there will be no vehicular movement but there will be continuous entertainment for people and they can buy things they want and can be free from vehicular noise pollution. Without any stage programme, the state government will also be celebrating its World Tourism Day on this street. Apart from cycles and skating board, there will be a total ban of other vehicles on this stretch.”
“On Monday, we got clearance from Tourism Department to go ahead with open street fest at Devaraj Urs road. Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge, District Minister H C Mahadevappa, Mayor M J Ravi Kumar and other elected representatives will also take part in the open street fest”, added Randeep. Mayor M J Ravi Kumar who also spoke on the occasion, said, “Open street festival is also one among the measures to control pollution in Mysuru”, he added.
Throughout the day, there will be puppet shows, skate boarding by professionals, street play and other cultural events. It will be total entertainment for people. The street will be free from vehicles but will be full of entertainment from 7 am to 9 pm.
Bicycle Heritage ride:
As part of World Tourism Day on September 27, the Department of Tourism in association with Namma Nimma Cycle will be organising heritage ride. During this two hour ride in cycle, the organisers will guide the participants as they explore the legacy left behind by kings, writers, musicians and statesmen. The participants will learn about the contribution of Wadiyars to Mysuru and to the state. They will be taken to important heritage sites across Mysuru city.
