The Department of Information and Public Relation in association with Rangayana is oragnising the workshop. They had conducted 5400 street plays and 1800 Kala Jathas across the State in 2015-16.

District and Revenue Minister Srinivas Prasad said that the State government has spent crores of rupees to bring out various schemes like Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya for the general public.

“Just announcing the schemes will not serve the purpose, it should reach the beneficiaries. Street plays and songs play pivotal role in reaching out to people. Street plays are mostly performed by artists who have undergone such pain. They help eradicate social discriminations across the state. When many farmers committed suicide to debt, the officials and the elected representatives tried their level best to convince them, but they failed. Only through street plays, the farmers got convinced and suicide was controlled. Such is the power and attraction of street plays,” he said.

Each district is having three to four teams who perform street plays. The director of each group has been called for the workshop who will train his team members. More than 160 artists are in the workshop training to fine tune their skills. The workshop which used to be for two days has been increased to five days from this year.

The department has planned to conduct 3000 street plays and 2300 kala jathas across the State. The artists will be staging 10 plays every month based on various government schemes. The team will be paid Rs 3000 for each play.

Director for the Department of Information and Public Relation N R Vishukumar, Rangayana Director H Janardhan (Janni), Rangayana Deputy Director Nirmala Matapathi, Deputy Director P N Gurumurthy were present.
