Bengaluru: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah went back and recalled episodes from his childhood during a book release event in Mysuru on Sunday evening and his stories have surely left eyebrows raised.

“My uncle was a rooster thief,” Siddaramaiah said leaving everyone surprised. The former CM remembered how his uncle used to lift country chicken from the sheds and hastily cook it in the night. “He would take the chickens away and when the women of the household raised alarm on the loss, he would join them,” Siddaramaiah said after releasing a book penned by Basavaraju C Jettihundi on the history of Jetttihundi.

Speaking about his love for folk dance, he said that he used to perform folk dances at every given opportunity until he became the CM. “I stopped it after becoming the CM fearing public reactions and objections,” he said lamenting over changing face of the villages.
“All the folk rituals have stopped in the village. Gambling has become very common. Drunkards are increasing day by day. Our villages are losing their originality,” he said.
He also recalled his first election where he was able to save over Rs.63,000 given by the villagers. “Earlier people used to give money to win the election. Now we are forced to give money to the villagers,” he said.
