‘Give way to save life’ Marathon bags outstanding response

Mysuru: Columbia Asia Hospital, Mysore organized a 10k marathon on the theme ‘Give way to save life’, in the city today. The marathon witnessed more than 1,300 participants. Th purpose of the event was to create awareness among general public to give way to ambulance and help in saving lives.

The Guest of Honour for the event OP Jaisha, an International marathon runner and Rio Olympiad said “Fitness is the key to success, when a person focuses on his physical well-being they are simultaneously honing all their senses physically and mentally, the concept of blending the noble cause of ‘Give Way to Save Life’ and Fitness through this challenge run by Columbia Asia is commendable and we need to spread the word as much as we can, because One Life Saved means Humanity Saved”.

She pointed that very often most of the marathon runners come from poor financial background and the recent cash prizes have attracted more runners, especially participants from Kenya. “They practice hard and take some money through these events. Apart from this, in recent days people have also started to take long distance running to keep themselves fit, which is a good sign. The long distance running will also serve as endurance for short distance running,” she said adding that she has made a representation to the Kerala government that she wants to train budding long distance and middle distance runners.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said that the event has given more insight to the citizens regarding their roles and responsibilities making the realization of the utmost importance of giving way to ambulances to help save lives.

Col. Rahul Tewari General Manager Columbia Asia Hospital said that it is the second season being organized by Columbia Asia Hospital, Mysore. “This event will be a part of the annual sporting calendar of Mysore henceforth in bigger and better way,” he said.

Winners

In the men’s category10km run, GJ Chetan stood first with a timing of 33.06sec, while HD Rama and his younger brother HD Lakshman, both BA students from Hunsuru stood second and third with a timing of 34.18sec and 35.59sec respectively. In the women’s section, Archana stood first by clocking 42.02sec followed by Thippavva Sannakki and D Ranjitha who secured second and third place with a timing of 42.5 sec and 47.55 sec respectively.
