Mysuru: In one of the most disturbing incidents, a Gram Panchayat president forced a temporary civic worker to take a manhole dip to clear the clogged drain near her residence in the city on June 7.
Geetha, president in one of the Gram Panchayats near Chamundi Hills, allegedly threatened a temporary civic worker of sacking him from the job to get the clogged sewer drain cleared near her house.
Ganesh with no options left plunged into the manhole to abide by GP president’s diktat, without the aid of any equipment like mini sewer jetting machines.
With government taking several measures to end manual scavenging, the latest incident has turned out to be a blot on the system, exposing the loopholes in implementation.
Unfortunately, the incident has taken place in chief minister’s home district and in the city which bagged the “cleanest city of India” tag twice in the recent past!
