Mysuru: District in-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa has said that policemen resorting to discriminate between people on basis of caste, creed etc will not be spared and will dealt with sternly.

Addressing the gathering after laying foundation stone for the construction of new building for Grade 3 Varuna Police station at Megalapura here on Sunday he said “Nobody is above the law, even Kanchi Seer was sent beyond bars. All are equal before law. The setting up of police stations helps the people to become law abiding citizens, which enables the state to become welfare state.”

He opined that apart from Cauvery water related issues, the overall law and order situation in Karnataka was far better than other states. The new building which will be constructed in ten months time at the cost of Rs 1.08 crore (G+1) will have more than 12 rooms including SI room, wireless room, store room, work station, lobby, male and female lock up and computer room.

Opposition trying to unseat Chief Minister

Alleging that the opposition is trying to destabilize the government, Mahadevappa added that they will not succeed in their attempts however.

“The present government will complete its five year term and chief minister Siddaramaiah who is also a great follower of the Constitution will present his 12th state budget on March 15,” he said adding that the party will face the upcoming Assembly polls under Siddaramaiah’s leadership and emerge victorious to see Siddaramaiah continue as the CM of the state.

Speaking about the Kambalapalli case, MP Druvanarayana said that though the condition of the Dalits in Karnataka is better than other states, the problem is the conviction rate in Dalit atrocity cases, which is very low.

“The recent verdict of killing of Dalits at Kambalapalli village in Kolar district by High Court is also lesson for the police officers to come out with proofs and evidences. Due to lack of evidence and proper proof the case went against the alits,” he said.

Vipul Kumar, Inspector General Police, Ravi D Channannavar, Superintendent of Police, Kala Krishnaswamy, Additional Superintendent of Police were also present.
