Mysuru: In the modern era, the selfie craze has grown multi-fold with people even losing their lives attempting to photograph themselves at several attractive tourist locales. A farmer noticing the selfie craze, has met with resounding success in generating extra revenue as well as protecting his precious crop.
In a tiny village of Begur, on the National Highway Number 766 leading to Ooty and Kerala, a farmer has grown sunflower which draws the attention of thousands of tourists. Tourists alight from their vehicles to capture the beautiful pictures of sunflowers grown in the front of a hillock, which provides the ideal backdrop.
To make the trip memorable, excited tourists run into the field to take selfies and at the same time end up damaging well-grown sunflower plants.
Farmers noticing the craze and the fallout, finally devised a new idea of charging Rs 20 per selfie!
Tourists during this extended weekend following Ramadan did not mind paying that extra bit to capture images with their loved ones to make their trip memorable. The farmer too is not complaining as he is getting additional revenue from unexpected corners where other farmers have bitten dust due to severe drought in the area.
Considering the rapid increase in foot count, tender coconut, ice cream vendors too have put up shacks to make some brisk business at this locale which has turned into a hot spot.
Interestingly, none is complaining as all are reaping the benefits. Where tourists enjoy, others earn!
