Mysuru: A gang of six persons who used to approach as policemen and carry out highway robberies were nabbed by Mysuru rural police.

The arrested are Imran (26), Kiran (23), Tejas (19) Mahindra (19) and Wasim (19). The police cracked two other highway robbery cases near Nanjangud town following the arrest of gang members.

Interestingly, gang leader Imran alias Kunta Imran is a car mechanic and he used cars which came for repair to his garage to execute the night highway robberies. In a recent highway robbery, they had enquired and threatened a Kerala businessman as policemen and decamped with cash of Rs 9000 and his mobile costing Rs 9000. Mohammad Lupen, the businessman from Kerala had come to Mysuru on a business trip. After completing his day’s engagements and seeing off his business colleagues, he was resting near a highway dhaba close to Mysuru airport on July 9. Imran and his gang approached him and decamped with his cash and mobile phone. The businessman had noted the Maruti car number which the gang members used during the crime. This vital clue given by the businessman led to the arrest of Imran and his accomplices by the police.

They all have confessed to the crime which according to them was committed “just to show off”!
