Mysuru: Behind every name, it is said, there is a story. The KPL team ‘Hubli Tigers’ is no different. The name of the team was the upshot of the team owner Sushil Jindal’s fondness for big cats. He took his passion and love for these animals a step further when he named his cricket team after them. This he revealed after adopting a tiger at the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Mysore Zoo, for Rs. one lakh on Thursday.
He said that he was a wildlife enthusiast and had a strong liking for big cats. “I very much like tigers and that’s what compels me to pay a visit to the zoo every now and then. I have been visiting the zoo for three years and I must say that this is the best maintained zoos in India,” Jindal said.
He had plans to adopt a tiger last year when his team was in Mysuru to play the KPL matches, but couldn’t, owing to personal reasons. He along with his team players spent a lot of time near the tiger’s enclosure.
Mysore zoo has topped the list of best zoos in India for the third consecutive year. And the animal adoption programme at the zoo had contributed a lot toward its success.
We appreciate the Hubli Tigers’ gesture and wish them all the success in the tournament, said Mysore Zoo Deputy Director Venkatesan. Jindal was accompanied by wildlife conservationist Joseph Hoover.
