Mysuru: Though many states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat had banned liquor there are no positive results, therefore while I am ready for liquor ban I am worried about its adverse effect said Excise Minister RB Thimmapur.

“After banning liquor in many states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat, people who are addicted to alcohol are drinking whatever they get including adulterated and spurious liquor which may have an adverse effect on their health. Hence keeping all this in mind before we ban liquor we need to set right the mind set of people who are use liquor to manage their lives. For us health of individual is more important than money. I had been to Gujarat where liquor is banned, and when I asked the public about liquor ban they said, though it is banned we are get whatever we require. Many provision stores supply spurious liquor to people. It has gone from bad to worse” added Thimmapur who was in Mysuru to take part in a program related Kannada Sahithya Sammelana. He also held a review meeting with Mysuru division staff.

62 percent achieved:

The Minister also mentioned that the department has achieved 62 percent of its revenue targets for the financial year of 2016-17. For 2016-17, the department has achieved Rs 11,271 crore as against the target of Rs 18,050 crore. “Due to Supreme Court related issues which went on for nearly two months we may find it difficult to achieve the set target” said Thimmapur.

Snack bar at liquor shop:

“Government is mulling out permit snack bars at liquor shops under CL-2 license. People taking liquor from liquor shops and drinking it on the road side, or at a park, in a car and other public places, because there are road side eateries there, which inconveniences the public especially women, the government is thinking of giving permission to start snack bars at liquor shops itself so that those who want to have liquor can also have nutrition close by and thereby prevent drinking in public and also provide safety and decorum for the general public especially women” said Thimmapur.

In the name of Hindutva they are doing politics:

“Whenever there is an election, BJP rakes up issues which are far from true. Tell me what their contribution to farmers and women is. They have not taken up any welfare program for farmers or for women. Only during time of election they will take up construction of Ram temple issue, after election there will be no progress or word on it. We are not like that for us development works and welfare schemes for people is more important” said Thimmapur.
