Mysuru: A II PU student’s confidence that there had been some erroneous valuation of her Sanskrit paper and hence applied for paper seeing and re-totalling paid dividends as with the revised marks she stood first in the district and fifth at the state-level.
Ancy Jasmine D’Mello, a student of Marimallappa PU College who had scored 589 marks out of 600 in the results declared initially. Ancy’s school principal, as well as teachers who shared her confidence that she would emerge among the toppers at a state-level, were taken aback upon seeing her marks. But Ancy remained confident that she should have scored more marks in Sanskrit than the 96 she had secured. She thus applied for paper seeing and after going through the same as she came to know that the evaluators had wrongly calculated her marks in Sanskrit. Post the re-totalling Ancy got 98 marks in Sanskrit which took her total tally to 591 thus putting her at the second position in the district.
Speaking to Newskarnataka Ancy, who is upset with the PU board especially the revaluation and re-totalling system said, “After the announcement of the results I was very confident of scoring more marks in Sanskrit and hence I applied for paper-seeing and later for re-totalling. After re-totalling my marks in Sanskrit increased from 96 to 98. Dedication and sincere effort is the secret behind my success. I want to take up medicine as I have been impressed with my elder sister, who is also into final year MBBS and is studying in Tumkur.”
BR Neelakanta, Principal of Marimallappa College said, “Ancy was most hardworking students. During all the test and exams in the college she used to come out with outstanding performance, we had hopes that she will be in top 5 in the state. She deserves the marks she got”.
Streamline revaluation and re-totalling system:
“Due to carelessness on part of evaluators I had to face a lot of problems. Just for re-totalling, they took one month, no one in the board gave a proper response. Stringent action should be initiated against those who do mistakes while evaluating the papers. There is a lot of complaints about valuation. If there is stringent punishment the evaluators will be doubly careful,” added Ancy who is very much upset with the PU board especially the revaluation and re-totalling system. She also mentioned that the system should be made more transparent. Neelakanta also mentioned that stringent action should be taken against the evaluators who are involved careless valuation.
