Mysuru: The proliferation of illegal layouts is posing significant challenges for property buyers in Hunsur, a small town in the district. Many residents have invested their life savings in properties within these unauthorized layouts, only to face ongoing issues due to a lack of effective law enforcement and inadequate surveillance.

Recent data from Municipal Administration Minister Rahim Khan, in response to a query by Hunsur MLA GD Harish Gowda, revealed that 81 layouts in Hunsur City Municipal Council (CMC) are operating illegally. These layouts, many of which were established decades ago, have resulted in residents being denied official khatas and basic facilities. Despite collecting penalties, authorities have failed to address the infrastructure needs of these areas.

Local residents, such as Subhash DG, express frustration over the collapsing infrastructure and the inability of government agencies to prevent or regulate these illegal layouts. Subhash notes that the absence of oversight has left buyers suffering as infrastructure deteriorates.

MLA Harish Gowda highlights that many of these layouts date back to 1971, and the lack of a clear state policy for regularizing them has left hundreds of families without essential amenities like drainage, drinking water, and proper roads. He urges the government to establish a clear policy to address and rectify the issues surrounding these illegal layouts.
