An indefinite strike has erupted in Nanjangud, led by the Karnataka State Civil Service Employees’ Association, urging the government to address several longstanding demands. Protesters locked the Nanjangud City Municipal Council office, raised slogans, and expressed anger over what they called decades of neglect.

Protesters demanded that benefits extended to state government employees be automatically applied to civil service staff without requiring separate orders. A key demand is the regularisation of daily wage employees working in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under the Daily Wages Welfare Development Act.

The association is also pushing for 100% recruitment of civil staff under special appointments in city councils, and the inclusion of civil servants and loaders hired under the 2022 special recruitment in the State Finance Commission (SFC) salary fund. They further urged the government to recognise water supply workers in ULBs under the same recruitment framework.

Another demand is the extension of Jyoti Sanjeevini and cashless treatment schemes to civil service employees. The protesters also insisted on merging various roles such as IT staff, accounts consultants, drivers, computer operators, and sanitary supervisors into the civil service cadre.

Leaders criticised the government for ignoring multiple representations over the years, with no visible action taken. With sanitation services already halted as part of the protest, the strikers warned of disrupting water supply next if their issues remain unresolved.

The demonstration saw participation from district vice president Narayana Rao and key members including N. Madaiah, Maithravathi, Rekha, Pritam, M. Mahesh, Kumar, and Nandini, among other employees.
