Infosys has indefinitely postponed the assessment of its trainee engineers, just weeks after laying off around 350 trainees from its Mysuru campus.

The IT giant onboarded nearly 1,000 engineering graduates in October, following prolonged delays in hiring freshers due to industry-wide slowdowns. Trainees typically get three attempts to clear the assessment, failing which they are dismissed.

In an internal email accessed by Business Standard, Infosys stated that the third attempt of the Generic FA2 assessment, scheduled for Monday, has been postponed, with revised dates to be announced later. Infosys declined to comment on the matter.

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), which had raised concerns over the layoffs with India’s labour ministry, called the postponement a direct result of the pressure mounted by employees and advocacy groups. “Infosys is trying to avoid further controversy after facing backlash for unethical layoffs,” said NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja.

Infosys had originally sent offer letters in 2022, but due to economic uncertainty, onboarding was delayed until late 2023. The hiring freeze and layoffs reflect broader struggles in the IT sector amid global market volatility.
