Mysuru: A gang of four kidnappers dropped a teenage boy back after holding him hostage for few hours, probably after realising that they had targeted the wrong “bait” in an extortion bid in Mysuru.
A group of four men kidnapped a 13-year-old boy answering nature’s call near his house in Ashokapuram area on July 31. The message on WhatsApp left kidnappers high and dry as they had targeted the wrong lad in their pursuit to extort money.
Soon after realising their mistake, kidnappers dropped the boy back near Aranya Bhavan (forest office) threatening him of dire consequences in case he revealed more details to parents and police. The negative response to their WhatsApp message in circulation might have forced the kidnappers to drop back the young teenager.
A gang from North India involved in kidnapping 2 boys in Mandya district could be behind this act, suspect police.
Meanwhile, parents of the kidnapped boy lodged a complaint at Ashokapuram police station. Police have taken the case seriously considering the ramifications.
