Kodagu: Two people tried to rape a 19-year-old Dalit married woman by forcibly dragging her into a coffee plantation. Two autorickshaws used in the crime have been seized. The main accused, Naushad of Hattihole and Farooq, a resident of Iggodlu Shelter Colony and who owns a mobile shop in Madapura, fled in the dark.

The incident took place at Biligeri near Thakeri in Somwarpet Taluk of Kodagu District at around 9.30bpm.

The two autorickshaws used in the crime belonged to Naushad and Rasheed of Iggodlu Shelter Colony. Activists of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike handed over one of the accused and two autorickshaws to Somwarapete Police demanding immediate arrest and strict legal action against all the culprits as the accused are likely to flee to foreign countries. If they fail to do so, the protestors have threatened to launch a fierce struggle under the leadership of the organisation to get justice for the victim and her family members.
