Mysuru: The final rites of Meenakshi Devi, elder sister of late Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, who passed away at Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru on 7th May 2015 was performed at Madhuvana, the cemetery of Mysore Royal Family members.
Meenakshi Devi born on 16 December 1951 as the second child to erstwhile Maharaja of Mysuru Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar and Tripura Sundari Ammanni. She completed her schooling in royal palace school inside the palace who later studied in Maharani’s College and later completed her graduation in political science in Mount Carmel College Bengaluru.
As family members said, “Meenakshi Devi never came out her father’s death as he died at a young age of 55 years. Now Srikantadatta Wadiyar death, who was younger to her added salt to the wound. She was not in state to overcome it.”
Meenakshi Devi was also recognised in various organisations and also involved in several social activities. She was member of Rotary Midtown Bengaluru, member of Karnataka social welfare board and also was member of various organisations.”
“She was married Sardar Lakshmi Kantheraje Urs in 1970 on 11th May who was an advocate and thereafter the couple resided at Kundalahalli, Bengaluru in white field. The couple were blessed with two children. First child Jaya Palashri and Varchasvi Srikantha Siddalingaraje Urs who is now Peetadhipathi of Malvalli mutt. Lakshmi Kantharaje Urs died on 7th December 1995.”
“She was depressed after the death of Srikantadatta Wadiyar. As an elder sister she was sad that she had to see her younger brother’s death. She was very much attached to her siblings. Three days were left to her marriage anniversary.” said a family member.
