Mysuru: A leopard which was found hurt in a field in Ankanahalli near Saligrama in K R Nagar taluk passed away despite the forest department’s efforts to save it.
According to forest officials, on July 27 morning, a farmer who found leopard in his farm alerted the department personnel about the presence of a big cat. Within few minutes, forest personnel rushed to the farm and found a leopard not moving from its place. Soon they alerted a veterinary doctors who too immediately rushed to the spot and after seeing the immobile leopard, tranquillised it.
When the forest personnel and veterinarians went closer to the leopard, they came to know it was suffering from severe injuries and finding it difficult to even breathe. Immediately, the veterinarians made arrangement to shift the injured leopard to Hunsur for further treatment but it died on the way to the hospital. Forest officials suspect that leopard might have had fight with its older counterpart as there were footmarks of a leopard on its body. Later, after performing the postmortem the leopard was buried in Hunsur.
