Leopard Sighting Forces Infosys Employees and Trainees to Work from Home in Mysuru
Infosys employees at the company’s Mysuru campus were instructed to work from home on December 31 due to a leopard sighting near the campus. The campus, located near the Hebbal Industrial Area adjacent to a reserve forest, is in an area known to be home to leopards. Officials suspect the leopard may have ventured out of the forest in search of food. Although rare, such sightings have occurred before, with a similar incident happening in 2011.
In an internal communication, Infosys’s HR department informed employees about the wild animal sighting, stating, “A wild animal has been spotted on the Mysuru DC campus today. Efforts are underway to ensure campus safety in collaboration with the task force.” The notice requested employees to stay home and not enter the campus on December 31. The security team was instructed to restrict access to the campus for safety purposes.
Forest department officials confirmed the leopard was captured on CCTV footage around 2 AM. A combing operation was immediately launched by the wildlife team. Additionally, approximately 4,000 trainees at the Infosys Global Education Centre were advised to stay indoors and refrain from leaving their hostel rooms. Training schedules were delayed by a day as a precaution.
Despite efforts to track the animal, including setting traps, the leopard remains elusive. No traces such as pugmarks or prey kills have been found, and the rescue operation may soon be suspended, though traps will remain in place for a few more days.
