A gold chain lost during a train journey was successfully recovered by the South Western Railways (SWR) maintenance crew in Mysuru and returned through proper channels to its rightful owner.
According to an official statement released by the SWR Mysuru Division on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the passenger, identified as Sangavi, had travelled on Train No. 16231 (Tiruchirappalli – KSR Bengaluru Express) on June 8. She reported the loss via the RailMadad platform, stating that her gold chain may have slipped into the toilet after a restroom visit in Coach B1.
The complaint was logged under the ‘Lost Property’ category and was followed up diligently. When the coach arrived in Mysuru and was detached for its scheduled primary maintenance, the railway’s technical team took swift action.
While dismantling and cleaning the bio-toilet system, the team discovered the missing gold chain. The valuable item was immediately handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for further formalities and secure return to the passenger.
This incident highlights the efficient coordination between maintenance staff and security personnel. Girish Dharmaraj Kalagonda, Divisional Commercial Manager of SWR, praised the quick response and urged passengers to use platforms like RailMadad for reporting lost items.
He emphasized that such incidents reflect the department’s dedication to safeguarding passengers’ belongings and ensuring their return whenever possible.
