Ban plastic in Raja’s Seat Park, fine violators Rs 100: Kodagu DC

Madikeri: Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy has directed the horticulture department officials to impose a fine of Rs 100 on tourists and others caught using plastic in the Raja’s Seat Park and ban the use of plastic within the park’s premises.

Chairing a meeting at the DC’s office on Tuesday, January 7, she directed the assistant director of the horticulture department and said, “The flower show will be on display from February 7 to 10 and it will attract more tourists.”

Directing the PWD officials, DC Anees said, “The footpath connecting Raja’s Seat shall be widened for public convenience.”

She then directed the municipal corporation officials to arrange for additional lighting of the Raja’s Seat area.

Rs 70 lakh income from Raja’s Seat entry fees

Assistant director of the horticulture department Chandrashekhar said, “With the entry fees from the Raja’s Seat, the department has got an income of Rs 70 lakhs. The flower show will be organized at a cost of Rs 20 lakhs.”

Assistant director of Kannada and Culture Department K T Darshan said, “From January 11, cultural programmes will be held at the Raja’s Seat Park.”

DC Annies directed the concerned officials to develop the Coorg Heritage Centre and attract tourists by presenting the Kodavas’ cultures and traditions.

Meanwhile, she also directed the officials to organize special fisheries stalls and organize photo exhibitions related to the brave Kodava soldiers.

Several officials were present at the meeting.
