Somwarpet: Joy had no bounds for family members, fans and well-wishers, when Indian hockey player Sunil’s name figured in the list of Arjuna award winners for the year 2017. Just before this news spilled over to media, Sunil’s engagement with a girl from Dakshina Kannada was fixed.
Sunil, from a poor economic background overcame innumerable obstacles to carve a name in the field of hockey, ultimately to realise the dream of playing for India.
S V Sunil was named as the Asian Player of the Year 2016 and Asian Promising Player of the Year respectively by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF).
Sunil had played a vital role in India’s successful outing at the FIH Champions Trophy in London where the team earned a historic silver medal.
He attributes his success to the efforts of former Indian hockey stalwarts Joachim Carvalho, Coothanda Poonacha, Arjun Halappa and few other team India players.
Kudos to S V Sunil from newskarnataka.com
