Madikeri: The District and Sessions Court judge issued life sentence to three accused in a murder and subsequent robbery case and sentenced two others with lighter jail term on April 7.
Accused B P Kunhjappa, D S Aiyappa , both residents of Bavali village and C A Erappa , resident of Kunjalgeri were handed life sentence for murdering Dinesh. The other two B A Pemmaih and K Venkatesh received lighter jail terms for shielding the murder accused by providing shelter.
Dinesh, a resident of Kirungadu village was waylaid and shot on November 4, 2014 on his way back home in a scooter by the two accused based on the instruction given by B P Kunhjappa. Later the accused Erappa and Aiyappa had robbed a gold chain and Rs 20,000 in cash from Dinesh, after he was shot dead.
The main accused Kunhjappa was informed of the killing by the duo Erappa and Aiyappa.
Meanwhile, undertrial Kunhjappa managed to escape and had taken shelter in Pemmiah’s residence, assisted by Venkatesh.
Napoklu police had carried out investigations and filed a chargesheet against the accused in the court.District and Sessions court Judge R K G M M Mahaswamiji declared the trio involved the murder guilty of crime and handed over life sentence to them along with Rs 20000 fine for each. In addition the trio was handed over 7 year sentence for robbing valuables and cash after the murder with a fine of Rs 3000 each. Accused Kunhjappa was handed over two year additional sentence with Rs 2000 fine for escaping from the clutches of law.The judge handed Erappa, an additional sentence of 3 years with a fine of Rs 2000 for providing the gun to commit the murder.
Pemmiah and Venkatesh were handed over 2 year sentence with a fine of Rs 150 each for providing shelter to the main accused Kunhjappa on the run.
