Madikeri: The principal civil judge of the JMFC at Madikeri has directed the CID, which has once again taken over the investigation into the suicide of DySP M.K. Ganapati, to submit its report within September 19.
After the High Court observed that the inquiry must be conducted by officers senior to the officers involved in the case, CID DySP E.B. Sridhar took over the investigation from the Kodagu SP on Friday, August 5. The Director General and Inspector General of Police issued the orders for the takeover of investigation.
The High court’s observations came in response to a criminal petition filed before it by the accused officers, Pramod Mohanty and A M Prasad questioning the order of the principal magistrate of the JMFC asking the police to register a case and file FIRs against them on the basis of a private criminal complaint filed by Ganapati’s son, Nehal.
The court granted a few more weeks’ time to Kodagu police to submit their report after they requested for some more time.
It may be recalled, DySP Ganapathi (51) was found hanging by a rope to the ceiling fan in the lodge room on July 7 hours after he gave an interview to a local news channel, accusing former state Home Minister K.J. George and two IPS officers of harassing him and that they would be responsible should anything happen to him. George resigned later, while Pramod Mohanty and A M Prasad have knocked the doors of the High Court seeking justice.
